Madhaniya ( Translation )

Hai ve mereya dadya rabba kinna jamiya kinane lae jaaniya hai.

( The girl musically wails and wonders about the irony of her life. Born to someone, and taken away by another, just because she weaves the dreams of marriage )

Babul tere mehala vicho satrangiya kabutar bole hai

( As she stands on the threshold, ready to fly, she symbolically reflects upon the memory of rainbow pigeons that freely sing in the courtyard of her father’s palatial home )

Babul tere mehala vicho teri lado pardesan hoi hai.

( She then calls out to her helpless father, telling him that his beloved daughter shall soon be a stranger in the distance )

Mere Apne vira ne dola tor ke aga nu keeta hai.

( She remembers that the brothers she once played with, were the ones who softly pushed her palanquin, bidding her the final farewell )

Maawan thiyan milan lagiyaan chare kandha ne chaibare diya haliyaan hai

( Her voice and her soul quiver as she relives the moment when she finally embraced her mother, when the walls and the verandahs wept, when the feelings surged up like a volcano, and flowed from their eyes like a river )
